2012 University of Idaho Pomology Program Table Grape School

University of Idaho Pomology and Viticulture Program in junction with the Snake River Table Grape Growers Association will hold its 2012 Table Grape School on Saturday, Februarys 18, 2012 at Parma High School, Common area, 137 Panther Way, Parma, ID 83660. We invite all tree fruit grower, grape growers, home gardeners and other interested people to participate in this educational school.  Several speakers have been invited to talk about their areas of expertise and many aspects of table grape production, from propagation, planting, training, irrigation, nutrition, storage, diseases, and chemical applications will be discussed in the meeting.  The lectures will be given at the high school and lunch will be served.  Then, audience will be guided to the University of Idaho Pomology and Viticulture vineyards to observe and to practice training and pruning of vines at different ages. 

Agenda:

8:00 AM: registration $25 per adult, including lunch( $15 without lunch)

8:50 AM Opening and Welcoming Remarks, Dr. Mike Clark, President, Snake River Table Grape Growers Association.

9:00-10:15 AM: Principals in Production of Table Grape in the Intermountain West.  The seminar will include: Propagation, Planting, Training, Irrigation, Nutrition, Cluster Management, GA application, Protection, Harvest and Postharvest. Speaker: Dr. Essie Fallahi, Professor of Pomology and Viticulture, University of Idaho

10:15-10:45 Critical Issues in Commercial Table Grape Production. Speaker: Tom Elias, Tundra Vineyards

10:45-11:15 Break and Visit with Booths

11:15-11:45 Table Grape Disease. Dr. Krishna Mohan, Professor of Plant Pathology, University of Idaho

11:45-12:15 Chemicals for Table Grapes. Speaker: Tom Lyon, Wilbur Ellis

12:15-1:00 Lunch(catered)

12:30-1:00 PM Marketing for Intermountain Table Grapes (During Lunch Break). Speaker: Jonathan Demcak

1:00- 1:15 PM Irrigation Design for Table Grapes. Speaker: Dick Bronson, Pipe-co

1:15-5:00 PM Practical/ Hands on Training and Pruning and Canopy Formation in Various ages of Table Grape.  Instructors: Dr. Essie Fallahi and Tom Elias, University of Idaho Pomology and Viticulture Vineyards (about 2 miles north of High School).

2011-Dec-10 SRTGGA Annual Members Meeting

Hello SRTGGA Members,

 

Wow 2011 has it been a busy year!

We trust you had a good growing season.

 I know a number of our members had bumper crops this year.

The season was a bit delayed due to the wet spring, but most of our vineyards catch up at the end of the season.

 

It is once again time to have our Annual Members Meeting.

It is very important that you attend and participate in this meeting. 

We will have a number of offices that will be up for election. 

Your participation and leadership is critical in making this organization one that will
be of most help in supporting our member growers. We still have a number of issues to solve for our growers. 
Please come and be a part of the solution.

 

Here are just some key issues that still need to be solved as a group in the future. 

  • Opening new markets for other varieties of grapes.
  • Cold Storage for our member growers.
  • Continued GAP Certifications for member growers.
  • 2nd Legal Review and Board Review of By-Laws and then review and acceptance by SRTGGA Members.

The University of Idaho Annual Fruit Field Day will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 8:30 am to 1:00 pm at the U of I Parma Research and Extension Center Pomology Orchard and Vineyard site, about 4 miles north of Parma, Idaho.  The registration will start at 8:30 am and program will start at 9:00 am (sharp).

Delegations from Korea & Taiwan will visit Idaho during the same week.

  

Take advantage of the opportunity to meet with representatives from both markets at the same time!

  

 

  • Meet one-on-one with pre-screened food buyers from Korea and Taiwan looking for high-quality U.S. products.
  • Showcase your products and discuss how they can fit into the purchasing plans for these companies.
  • Gain information about importer/buyer needs and preferences. 

A delegation of food service and retail buyers from both Korea and Taiwan will travel to the WUSATA region for meetings and facility tours. The two groups will be in Idaho July 19-21. The delegation will be comprised of importers buying for leading restaurants, hotel chains, retail grocery stores, and other foodservice venues in Korea and Taiwan. Companies have the opportunity to network and establish contacts with key buyers.
